Modern-day pocahontas

I like the shapes, I like the brown/camel/black color scheme, and I absolutely love the combination of different textures (something I feel Toga excels at and keeps improving on with every season) --leather, fringe, thick knit and I think I see some velvet in there as well. Maybe the overall impression is a bit Prada meets Martin Margiela but I'm not complaining. Yasuko Furuta is doing great things for Japanese fashion and that's more than I can say for a lot of the uninspired imitative designers here.

The dream that you wish will come true

I fell asleep and forgot to bid on this jacket (cdg disney) which was up on auction for pretty cheap. I'm dying inside.

I can't believe I'd forgotten how fantastic this collection was. Looking at it now, I'm coveting everything all over again. I hate you Rei for making me want to wear stuffed animals on my chest.

Which reminds me... CdG X Louis Vuitton: what a tacky and exciting collaboration! The limited-edition sucker inside me is wanting this so much.

Hey little tomboy

I'm still enjoying fucking up nice outfits with hi-tech accessories. Currently I'm looking for this gundam robot-style backpack that I saw in the latest issue of Nylon Japan...I just love the silhouette of a big backpack paired with a floorlength skirt. Adding a few sporty details (like hi-tops and men's G-shock watches) really helps to tone down what is otherwise too prettypretty and it makes it a lot easier for me to jump around, crouch on the ground, hike up my skirt and sprint up the stairs etc without feeling awkward.
The outfits pictured here aren't exceptional or anything but again the hi-tech accessories make them look so cool. I definitely wouldn't mind pairing a flower print dress with a colorful helmet or rollerblades.

Ouch

Mike Mills made more bruise posters! Don't ask why but I really like this series and I want one for my room so bad.

The decisive moment

The other day I saw a documentary about the legendary French photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue. How is it possible that his photographs are so luxe/decadent but effortless at the same time?

In the film Mr. Lartigue was sitting in front of one of his paintings of a huge flower bouquet, wearing a colorful knitted sweater. He seemed so childlike and adorable, I wish I could show you the stills or something.

Thought she'd gone for good but she'd only gone for smokes

Cute guy modeling cute necklaces. I like the ivory necklace by BS&PS but also love the idea of an upside down Jesus cross--that one's by Eddie Borgo.

Update: Some comments made me curious so I checked on google and it seems that an actual crucifix (ft. jesus) upside down is a disrespectul/satanic thing. A simple cross upside down can be okay if you're a faithful christian.
I'm an atheist but I've always had a certain amount of respect for catholicism . I don't think it's cool to be abusing other people's symbols for the hell of it but I do genuinely find the crucifix beautiful--which is probably why it didn't occur to me in the first place that an inverted version is wrong.
If I had a right to decide I'd say that it's unimportant how a cross or a crucifix is worn--upsidedown or sideways doesn't change the fact that Jesus died on the cross. It reminds me of Andres Serrano's Piss Christ: At first you're like huh, some guy threw jesus into a bowl of his own pee? Sacrilege! But then it hits you: why should it matter, it's beautiful anyway.

Contaminated beach party

Balmain is not really my kind of label but lately I find myself thinking about these looks a lot. The yucky beach theme is so cool, I might have to try out some tie-dye in a nasty green color this summer.

Pimpin all over the world

It's probably a little late to be posting these looks from SS08 but Ksubi makes the best streetwear so ya can't complain. Cheers to my hometown down under! I would wear either of these looks head to toe.

It's not easy when you're in love

I'm so excited about Acne's fall shoes. I assume the online store will be stocking them after the summer sales--get on the waitlist and prepare yoselves!

My last post reminded me...

of Japanese designer Nozomi Ishiguro who often takes frills, layering and mixnmatch flower prints and plaids to an extreme level. Looking at his work you realize that past a certain point, cuteness transforms into something that is both grotesque and morbid. His latest collection:

New jersey turnpike ridin on a wet night

Did I mention how I'm mildly obsessed with Burfitt's spring collection? I can't get over how awesome the different plaid patterns look together, all acid-washed and worn out and combined with the random yellow/purple/green dyed rope accessory. A quick glance at the lookbook the other day confirmed that the collection is as cool as I thought. It was styled perfectly, not that "effortless" bullshit but really all out neo-punk with clown makeup, pink hair, balloons and wooden getas. I could def. use a bit of crazy in my wardrobe this summer.
