Inspirators of SS08

There was a fantastic article in the latest issue of japanese fashion mag highfashion that talked about some of the spring collections which were created with reference to artwork or in collaboration with an artist/design studio. I like this sort of thing (even if the clothes don't turn out so great) because it's always nice to think that artists of different genres are constantly influencing one another. Here are a few that I thought were pretty cool.

Giambattista Valli and light installation artist Dan Flavin

Dior and fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh

Chloe and German informel painter Hans Hartung

Dolce & Gabbana and New York's Gramercy Park Hotel

Garden designer Patrik Blanc for Stella McCartney's show

Margaret Howell and photographer Stefanie Schneider

Maurizio Pecoraro and modern painter Mark Rothko

Contemporary American painter Richard Prince for Louis Vuitton

Design studio 2X4 for Prada's prints, show and store design

Bottega Venetta and sculptor Alberto Giacometti

Fendi and Dadaist painter Francis Picabia
