A hero

I just saw a documentary about the Japanese animation artist and dirctor Hayao Miyazaki. Bits and pieces of it made me cry because I kept realizing how much of a genius he is. I dunno, there's something so beautiful about people who are able to find their true calling and give it their all. An especially memorable part was when he talked about how a little American girl told him that she thought Spirited Away's Chihiro was very cool, and that it was such comments he got from kids that made his work worthwhile in the end.
In between interviews there was a quick filmography and it literally gave me goosebumps to think that all those masterpieces like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Laputa, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa came from the mind of this one man alone.

His last movie is out in the theaters right now. It's about a little fish that wants to become a human girl. I'm excited to see it but at the same time I'm sort of devastated that this is the end. I'm really going to miss Mr. Miyazaki's work.

Oh I love his work so much.

It makes me want to cry to think that there's an end to it.

Howl's Moving Castle is far and away my favorite. And my son's too, I let him watch it when was 3, probably too young but he didn't watch any other TV, and it was his favorite. He's 4 1/2 now and doesn't like it as much but I think when he is older he'll get back into it. I have it memorized.
